IntelliMagic zAcademy Brings Free Online Education to the z/OS Performance / Capacity Community

2020 has been a year no one will ever forget. Collectively and individually, we have all felt the impacts of this year. On the professional side, some of the most impactful changes have included the often full-scale and immediate shift to remote working, and the postponing and canceling of in-person events across much of the world.

The z/OS performance / capacity planning industry has been no exception in this regard. We have seen SHARE, CMG, IBM, etc, all postpone or cancel in-person conferences, in some cases until at least 2022. But despite the conference closures, our world, our industry, and the technology and practices that we use are still rapidly evolving on a constant basis. Trying to manage the changes and stay on top of industry-relevant topics and advancements while also managing our daily work schedules can seem impossible at times.

Despite the event cancellations, we still need a point of contact to hear from industry leaders and experts, learn about updates in the industry and technology, and discover best-practices from other analysts. To fill this gap and to provide that point of contact for the performance / capacity analysts in our small industry, IntelliMagic launched IntelliMagic zAcademy in April 2020.

With sessions on topics such as “What am I waiting for? – a performance session for anyone,” to “Imagine how much you can learn from SMF data,” IntelliMagic zAcademy has sessions ranging from the introductory level to the highly technical and everything in-between. Mainframe performance and capacity professionals across the wide spectrum of the z/OS infrastructure are able to find meaningful and informational sessions relevant to them and their work.

IntelliMagic zAcademy presenters include the renown likes of Cheryl Watson (Mainframe Hall of Famer and A.A Michelson Award recipient) and Frank Kyne of Watson and Walker, and IntelliMagic conference regulars, John Baker and Todd Havekost to name a few. These well-known presenters in the z/OS performance industry have won Best Speaker, Best Paper, and Best Presentation awards.

We know that ‘leveling-up’ our skillsets and learning something useful for our jobs and careers often makes a positive impact on our days. Which is why IntelliMagic zAcademy has provided free, educational, online sessions to over 1,000 viewers to date, and continues to provide these educational sessions free of charge every month.
