How did you end up in IT?

I got my first programmable calculator during my school years. I found delight learning how the program works. It gave me a start in my IT career.

What’s the biggest challenge facing your company today?

In modern realities, we should deliver new products fast, while reducing operating costs but keeping high quality standards. More clients are using online services and need them available 24-7.

What do you think “the next big thing” for your business will be?

In my opinion, blockchain technology will revolutionize the financial field. Artificial intelligence is also a game changer.

What do you think you’d be doing if you weren’t in IT?

The exact sciences have always been my strong point. I also like to communicate, to share my views and to gain new experiences. So, I would be a solid-state physics professor, turning my lectures into the show, or I would be a bartender, producing scientific experiments while mixing cocktails.

What trends are affecting your work?

Innovations require more efficient resource usage.

Who’s been your greatest mentor? What role has that person played in your life or career?

Michail Matekin, my former manager and current friend. He showed me how to set and reach goals.

What’s your favorite part of your day and why?

I’m a night owl. My best productivity is in the late evening.

What’s been your biggest accomplishment?

My friend and I started the AIXPortal, a Russian-speaking Power Systems* community, in 2007. I am proud that IBM marked my achievements, recognizing me as an IBM Champion for Power Systems.

What’s your favorite activity outside of work?

Travelling. I like to explore other cities and countries.

What’s the first thing you do when you get home from work each day?

I close the door to leave the stress and bustle outside. It’s my time to spend with my family.

What’s the geekiest thing you’ve ever owned?

My small collection of classic IBM Thinkpads, PS/2 and RS/6000, all of which are functional.

What’s one thing that most people don’t know about you?

I play guitar, but I do it for my own pleasure, not for public performance.
