January TechPulse Results: IT Trends (IBM Z)
TechChannel readers were most encouraged by the move toward hybrid cloud and the adoption of modern development languages and interfaces, while their biggest concerns were skills gaps and "legacy" perceptions
To kick off the new TechPulse micro-survey program in January, TechChannel asked readers to weigh in on a few of the biggest trends in the IBM Z ecosystem. The 36 respondents saw the move toward hybrid cloud and the adoption of modern development languages and interfaces as the most promising growth drivers. Meanwhile, they identified skills gaps and perceptions of the mainframe as a “legacy” platform as the primary risks. To maintain their knowledge and skills, respondents said they prioritize vendor technical documentation and industry events.
Looking ahead, they cited AI-enhanced development tools and agentic architecture as the most critical skills to acquire over the next decade.
