Meeting the AI Crazy Train Head-on
This year marks my 41st year working in the mainframe industry. My career has centered on mainframe computer measurement, analysis, workload tuning, resource optimization, and capacity planning. Today, as independent vendors, my colleague Scott Chapman and I work to educate computer professionals to do what we do. Our Pivotor® Performance Reporting software focuses on helping users to better understand the performance of their environments while simultaneously educating them on maintaining optimal mainframe performance.
I am telling you all this is to express my appreciation for having been able to devote my career to such an interesting, important, and worthy mainframe discipline. I consider myself fortunate to have had a front row seat to both watch and participate in the maturity of the mainframe industry.
Like everyone reading this, I am preparing for the oncoming Artificial Intelligence (AI) revolution that promises to have huge implications for all computer professionals. Scott and I have been thinking a great deal about AI and have taken steps to incorporate some level of AI into Pivotor. At EPS, we are looking for ways to take advantage of the advances in AI. We are working hard to prepare both our current and prospective customers. Our semi-regular educational webinars are a prime example of our mission to foster knowledge transfer to customer base.
AI is going to be a crazy train that comes barreling down the tracks of the mainframe industry. AI is a disruptor, and we want our clients to be prepared. You can either get out of AI’s way, you can ride the train, or you can meet it head-on. We believe in meeting it head-on. That is, we suggest you learn how to benefit from AI but also ensure you do not find yourself out of a career. Many of the young people reading this may not have the 40-year mainframe career I have had, but there will be some wonderful opportunities to come.
We here at EPS strongly suggest you meet this AI train head-on, too. Let us educate you so you can arm yourself with Actual Intelligence. Doing so will ensure your career compliments an AI world. Our goal is for you to have long-distinguished mainframe careers and not just be gear oilers of this oncoming crazy train.
