IBM Introduces IBM LinuxONE 4 Express
On February 6, IBM announced the launch of IBM LinuxONE 4 Express, a new hybrid cloud and AI platform designed to seamlessly deliver cybersecurity, resilience, scalability and AI inferencing to hybrid cloud environments.
IBM LinuxONE 4 Express: The Specs
IBM LinuxONE 4 Express utilizes a pre-configured rack-mount system paired with an IBM Telum processor for reduced energy consumption. IBM Secure Execution for Linux and scalable workload isolation protect sensitive data both internally and from external threats. The system—with GDPS, IBM DS8000 series storages with HyperSwap and running a Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform environment—boasts 99.999999% availability.
Specifically designed to support diverse workloads and protect digital assets, IBM LinuxONE 4 Express provides cost-effectiveness and scalability for small to medium businesses (SMBs).
Why IBM LinuxONE 4 Express?
Hybrid cloud strategy brings cost effectiveness, security and efficiency for budget-conscious SMBs that do not want to sacrifice security and optimization and require powerful computing capabilities without additional complexity.
“[It] brings all of the AI, security and resiliency capabilities of LinuxONE to help clients address a wide range of use cases at a low entry price point,” says Rick Schoonmaker, director, IBM Z and LinuxONE HW Product Management. “Businesses can take advantage of these capabilities with a very low cost of ownership.”
The rack-mount configuration also streamlines IT setups, making it easier for SMBs to integrate. “[It] was introduced to simplify our clients’ IT environments and help save space and resources within their data centers. With LinuxONE’s capacity and performance abilities for transaction processing, the rack-mount model allows clients to run workloads in a fit-for-purpose model, allowing them to utilize IT resources more efficiently,” says Schoonmaker.
Sustainability and IBM LinuxONE 4 Express
The system’s sustainability is also a standout feature. “The entire LinuxONE 4 family has been designed with sustainability in mind to help clients run mission-critical workloads while reducing energy consumption,” notes Schoonmaker, adding that the IBM LinuxONE Rockhopper 4 system can reduce energy consumption by 75% and space needed by 67%.
Schoonmaker adds, “[It] provides smaller businesses with a new entry point to the [platform]. This enables clients to start small, with the knowledge that as they grow, they can do so while helping support their business’s energy consumption and sustainability goals.”
