PowerVM LinkedIn Group

PowerVM is IBM's advanced virtualization on Power Systems. Learn more about it in the PowerVM LinkedIn group.

One of the challenges with IBM i on IBM Power Systems is simply knowing everything you need to know. It’s what you don’t know that can get you into trouble! This blog generally focuses on IBM i information.

Since IBM i runs on IBM Power Systems, and since most IBM i shops are now using logical partitioning, you probably know some things about PowerVM.

PowerVM is IBM’s advanced virtualization on Power Systems. It comprises the Power Hypervisor (part of System Firmware), Virtual I/O Server (VIOS) and the Hardware Management Console (HMC).

What if you want to learn more?  Or what if you have some specific questions, such as:

  • What new functions are available in PowerVM?
  • How can you speed up dynamic logical partitioning (DLPAR) operations?
  • How can you reduce the amount of memory allocated to the system firmware?

The answers to these and many other technical questions can be found in the PowerVM LinkedIn group and its related website, IBM PowerVM Wiki on IBM developerWorks.

Weekly, the IBM PowerVM team publishes technical information on a specific feature of PowerVM. These short blogs will give you insights into the actual design and usage of PowerVM features. The LinkedIn group allows you to ask questions and engage in dialog.

We hope you will join this exchange with the IBM development teams!
