Subsystem Configuration Documentation

With the 7.3 release, the subsystem configuration information has been updated and incorporated into the Work Management topic within the IBM i Knowledge Center.

Some of you may have read the subsystem configuration experience reports that were written way back in 2004, which was about when V5R3 became available. The experience reports were under the related information section of the Work Management topic. The subsystem configuration experience reports were covered in three sections:

  • Why multiple subsystems are important, along with how to configure subsystems for server jobs
  • How to configure interactive subsystems
  • How to manage server jobs

Each release, these experience reports were brought forward in the Information Center (now the Knowledge Center), but without updates. They were removed from the experience reports section in the IBM i 7.2 Knowledge Center because they had not been updated for years and screenshots of old GUI displays and terminology were outdated.

The good news is that with the 7.3 release, the subsystem configuration information has been updated and incorporated into the Work Management topic within the IBM i Knowledge Center—where it really should have been all along. In addition to updating the existing documentation, the information was also extended to cover the newer IBM i Services for subsystem configuration: SET_SERVER_SBS_ROUTING and SERVER_SBS_ROUTING services.

You will find this topic within the Work Management section in the Knowledge Center.
